Science and Conservation Projects

Wild Salmon Rivers, with participation by anglers and funds from the Wild Salmon Science & Conservation Fund, supports a long-term companion study of P.s. mykiss (rainbow trout) focused on the anadromous and resident life history adaptation. Anglers are essential to the project. First, they pay to operate the wilderness camps from which the data is collected. Secondly, anglers provide a non-lethal mechanism to collect data from rainbow trout.

Kamchatka is the last place on earth where these companion studies can be completed because it is the last place left with large assemblages of undisturbed trout and steelhead populations that have not been compromised by angling, commercial activities or hatchery introductions.
